Male Infertility

Azoospermia

Azoospermia means no sperm is seen in semen analysis. It can be obstructive (blockage) or non-obstructive (reduced production), and both need focused fertility evaluation.

Overview

Evidence-based guidance and holistic care notes for azoospermia.

Physiology and Mechanism

Sperm are produced in testes, mature in epididymis, and travel through vas deferens. Failure at production or transport stage can cause azoospermia.

Types and Causes

Obstructive Azoospermia

  • Congenital absence of vas deferens

Sperm production may be normal but transport pathway is absent.

  • Post-infection or post-surgery scarring

Scarring can block sperm passage in epididymis or vas deferens.

Non-obstructive Azoospermia

  • Testicular production failure

Primary testicular dysfunction can severely reduce sperm production.

  • Hormonal or genetic disorders

Endocrine axis issues or genetic variants can impair spermatogenesis.

Management Approach

Clinical Care

  • Semen analysis, hormone profile, ultrasound, and genetic tests as needed.
  • Microsurgical correction in selected obstructive cases.
  • Sperm retrieval plus assisted reproduction in selected cases.

Ayurvedic Support

  • Personalized plan to support Shukra dhatu and metabolic balance.
  • Diet, sleep, and stress correction for reproductive health.
